Terabitia | Desideratum (The Strength of Desire)
Greek mythology tells us that Theseus, after killing the Minotaur, was honoured with a vegetable salad made from dandelions to purify his blood. Magicians in the 16th century believed that if they rubbed their bodies with a dandelion, they would gain powers from beyond. In Victorian England, the language of flowers meant that receiving this flower sent a message of fidelity…
From all this, a belief has survived to the present day that we have all tried to follow at one time or another: just blow a dandelion with a certain amount of force to fill the air with spores and, according to tradition, to have a wish granted. Inspired by all this imaginary, Terabitia – winner of the first FLORA Talent Patio, in which we give space to new creators – has devised a floral installation with a simple and direct reading, like the myths of childhood. But not only. The dandelion is a beautiful proof of the strength of the apparently fragile. Don’t be fooled by its gentleness: it can grow in the most difficult climatic and soil conditions. Have we learnt anything from it in the last year?
About the installation:
“This poetic dandelion sprouts up, making a crack in the barren ground of adversity.
This dandelion stands tall, challenging, and invites us to blow on it to make our wishes come true.
This dandelion turns us into children.
We blow with all our might, from the deepest of our depths, with the excitement of our childlike hearts and the certainty of enthusiasm, with the strength of tenderness (because there is nothing more powerful than a kind gesture).
Let us blow and create a trail of spores yearning to come out into a reality that makes us better, happier. ALL OF US.
Because continuing to dream is a necessity, because with strength, valour and determination our desires can come true.
Let us blow for a friendlier world, please.
That’s my DESIDERATUM.
What’s yours?”
