This Humid House | Between Magnolias
Using mostly local plant material, This Humid House mixes different types of habitats to offer an installation clearly inspired by a multitude of species: its shapes are reminiscent of fallen leaves and nests, the happy coexistence between human buildings and animal homes, and biomorphic shapes that invoke hives and anthills. Even small bird feeders made together in collaboration with local residents can be found in this micro-habitat that might be hiding the odd beetle, one of the most unique pollinators of magnolia. Who knows?
Through these symbiotic relationships between flora, fauna and humans, the artists explore a possibly shared habitat, accompanied by a soundscape that merges recordings of country fields in Singapore with poems from the times of Al-Andalus that celebrate nature.
“Drawing on the natural world, this work moves beyond anthropocentric perspectives, embracing the intricate interdependencies that bind all species.”
