Eugenio Ampudia | A plant-like thought
in collaboration with Alejandro Banegas
Plants have no central nervous system, they do not move, but they are as much living beings as we are. We are unaware of the communication mechanisms they use to interact, although recent research has discovered that some emit sounds when they are subject to stressful conditions.
Two structures represent the respective neurons into which different living flowers are integrated on a monumental scale. A recording of these sounds is heard in the background, and certain flashes of light invoke the synapses with which the neurons transmit information. Ampudia proposes a journey through the structured and the spontaneous, the known and the unknown, to expand our knowledge of plant species.
“As the basis for the architecture of the human mind, the place where consciousness is produced, neurons play the leading role here in a symbolic synthesis with living beings that literally make them flourish.”
