Paula Anta
Paula Anta works mainly in the fields of photography, installation and sculpture. She earned a PhD in Fine Art (cum laude) from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a European Doctorate in partnership with the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, and Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken. She has divided her time between Spain and Germany for the past sixteen years, working as an assistant to some of the most important photographers of the Düsseldorf School.
Conceptually speaking, Anta’s work focuses on showing the significance of each landscape as a cultural fact in its own right. The relationship between nature and artificiality, man-made structures, history and travel define the trajectory of her oeuvre, which includes exquisite series like Nudos (which won the 11th Pilar Citoler International Biennial Prize for Contemporary Photography), Khamekaye (2018), L’architecture des Arbres (The Architecture of Trees, 2013) and Paraísos artificiales (Artificial Paradises, 2008). Her unique approach to nature and keen interest in architecture make Anta an ideal visual artist for the FLORA Festival.
Internationally, she has exhibited her work at the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain (Washington, DC), the Nobel Prize Museum (Sweden), the Dakar Biennale at Musée Boribana (Senegal), the Nirox Foundation (South Africa) and the Academy of Spain in Rome. In Spain, her art has appeared at venues like Matadero Madrid, Tabacalera, La Laboral, Centro Niemeyer, Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, CCCB and Sala Vimcorsa and can be found in the collections of the Bank of Spain, DKV, Pilar Citoler, Ankaria and the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
