La Musa de las Flores
Like many other FLORA participants, who combine an artistic eye with flawless technique, this artist’s journey began in a non-floral discipline—in her case, interior architecture. While pursuing her architectural studies in London, she signed up for a flower arranging workshop and took the first step towards becoming what she is today: one of the world’s most renowned floral designers and landscape gardeners. “Flowers guided me into the direction of who I am,” she says.
Gabriela Salazar, the woman behind La Musa de las Flores—an evocative name that translates as “The Flower Muse”—is known for her luxuriant, romantic style. She attributes it to being connected to nature and growing her own flowers: in her Valle de Bravo garden, she observes the contours of plants and trees, paying special attention to their spontaneous movements and soft, elegant forms. In that process of observation, she focuses particularly on imperfections and the complete life cycle of the plant, knowing that both are powerful stimulants of intense artistic creativity.
Salazar leads workshops and designs events across the globe, and is the author of The Artistry of Flowers: Floral Design by La Musa de las Flores, published by Rizzoli.
