František Baluška
(Trnava, Slovakia, 1957). Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Cell Biology (IZMB) of the University of Bonn, Baluska is one of the leading scientists in the fields of roots, cytoskeleton, polarity, endocytosis, vesicle recycling and plant sensory biology and behaviour. In recent years, he has been actively involved in the integration of plant cell biology and plant physiology with plant sensory ecology as well as plant electrophysiology to generate the newly emerging field of plant neurobiology.
To promote this new sensory and behavioural perspective on plants and their roots, he co-founded with Taylor & Francis two renowned scientific journals: Plant Signaling & Behavior and Communicative and Integrative Biology. He is also a founding member of the Steering Committee of the Society of Plant Neurobiology, renamed the Society of Plant Signaling & Behavior in 2009, a reference publication for any researcher of plant behaviour.
