Flowers by Bornay
“Flowers by Bornay is to floral art what Ferran Adrià is to gastronomy”. This is how the critic and expert in the fields of flowers and fashion Olivier Dupon described this atelier. And he wasn’t wrong. All those who view and work with flowers from a contemporary, free and unprejudiced perspective have been keeping a close eye on them for years.
Aside from their passion for altering the shades of the botanical materials with which they work through the use of spray paint colours—for which they were pioneers, bringing them particular fame—the most interesting thing about Flowers By Bornay lies in their disparate and surprising references, including film, science fiction, horror, science, pop culture, art and contemporary dance, among others. Multiple universes that inspire floral works somewhere in between beauty and bewilderment.
Marta Vidal, Roser Bargalló and Joan Xapelli are the three masterminds (and skilful sets of hands) behind Flowers by Bornay, a company founded in 2009 and currently located in the Sants neighbourhood of Barcelona. Together they lead a project whose work can be seen in cities all over the world, in collaboration with institutions and brands such as the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hermès, Armani, La Pedrera, Chanel, Loewe, Burberry, Casa Batlló and Uniqlo. At FLORA we are lucky enough to bring the three of them together, creating something new, surprising and exclusive for Córdoba and the festival.
