Carvento

Córdoba, 1995

Carlos Carvento, born in Cordoba, is a professional dancer of classical and contemporary dance and combines his vocation with drag and performance. At the age of 8 years he began his dance training at the Conservatory of Dance in Cordoba “Luis del Rio” later continued his university studies in dance at the Conservatory of Dance “Maria de Avila” Madrid, obtaining great recognition in his final work Maricón de España.

During all this time she has developed her dance work from an activist point of view, giving value to the real diversity in dance, referent both in theoretical and practical terms, due to this and thanks to the effort and years of research, she has had the opportunity to work in the residency program of the National Dance Company during 2019, also giving workshops at the Canal Theaters together with the dancer and philosopher Fernando López, also collaborating with the Reina Sofía Museum and the students of the master’s degree in History of Contemporary Art and Visual Culture, with the piece Resistance exhibited in the Richard Serra room, during September 2018.

He had the opportunity to collaborate with visual artist and independent curator David Trullo for the International Geca Congress organized by the Complutense University of Madrid. He also participated in the festival “Encuentros Concentrados” in January 2019, Seville, with an excerpt of the work Maricón de España and in the 2nd Contenedor Cultural “Cruza la acera” in June 2019, Malaga, with the excerpt of the work Maricón de España.

All this added to his work within the Andalusian activism, obtaining national recognition through one of his best known performance, such as those of April 2019 in the holy week of Cordoba, entitled Mantilla, where many media such as the magazine Shangay national newspapers echoed this work.

He is currently in the process of premiering the show Maricón de España, a large-scale presentation of the queer movement, thanks to the success of the pilot piece, during the year 18 and 19, in addition to continuing to work every day for the diversity of bodies and identities within dance.
