Santiago Beruete + Ángel Lora | When the river flows…

Conference and conversation

There is a story in Cordoba that, despite having occurred in plain sight, or perhaps precisely because of it, has gone more unnoticed than it should. We are referring to the Guadalquivir River in its encounter with the city, an exciting story where flora and fauna, autochthonous and allochthonous species, toxic spills that end up generating natural wealth and a city that moves between love and oblivion towards what gives it life. What do we see when we look at the banks of the Guadalquivir River in Cordoba? More than meets the eye…

In its eagerness to value the city, FLORA invites every year the most interesting figures of the current botanical scene to discover the natural heritage of Cordoba. If in the last edition we met the vision of the botanical horticulturist Carlos Magdalena about our courtyards, this time we will receive the philosopher, anthropologist and writer Santiago Beruete. In books such as Jardinosofía (2016) or Verdolatría (2018), Beruete makes us see botany with a new, close and erudite look at the same time. His particular approach and his words add followers day by day to that passion for nature that we share in FLORA.

Santiago Beruete, a Navarrese living in Ibiza for 25 years, will discover in his visit to FLORA the history of the last decades of the Guadalquivir River in Cordoba from the hand of Ángel Lora, one of the people who best knows the history of our river. Professor of Forestry Engineering at the School of Agricultural Engineering and Forestry and director for 8 years of the Department of Parks and Gardens of the City of Cordoba, Lora speaks from knowledge, and also from passion.

The public attending this meeting that we have called Cuando el río suena… will enjoy a lecture by Santiago Beruete followed by a conversation between Beruete himself and Ángel Lora, who will share the conversations, ideas and sensations shared during their walks along the river.
