Ikefrana | Biomaterials Workshop
This in-person workshop is designed for anyone interested in discovering the fascinating world of biomaterials and the sustainable materials of the future. No prior knowledge is required—only curiosity and a desire to learn.
During the session, participants will explore how it is possible to give a second life to organic waste, transforming it into new materials with real applications. The aim is to demonstrate the potential of bioplastics as an alternative to conventional plastics and to open the path towards more responsible and regenerative design.
In the practical part, recipes are created from glycerine and gelatine, natural pigments are used, and organic textures are added from plant remains and nearby waste. Techniques of drying and preservation are also taught, allowing these materials to be used in different fields.
Throughout the workshop, two main types of biomaterials are produced: bioplastic and bioleather.
Each participant will take home the samples made during the session to continue observing the drying process at home.
This workshop is a creative and hands-on experience that combines biology, design, and artistic experimentation to rethink how we produce and consume materials, with an eye on a more circular and sustainable future.
